Today, January 21, 2020, 17 human rights and protection organizations, among which the Greek Council for Refugees, addressed an open letter to the Minister of Migration and Asylum, Mr. Notis Mitarakis, upon assuming his new duties, in which they underline a number of serious issues with regard to the current situation of asylum seekers and refugees in Greece.
On the occasion of this letter, the Greek Council for Refugees would like to point out that:
"The vast majority of people who seek protection in Greece have a refugee profile, as they continue arriving from countries which are characterized by conflict/violence and/or systematic human rights violations. The majority of those are women and children.
Consequently, and in recognition of this reality, the Greek Council for Refugees asks of the Minister to devise a comprehensive plan which, by upholding their rights, will aim at strengthening the integration prospects of a population which is bound to stay in Greece."
