REACHing is a European initiative dedicated to strengthening the response to human trafficking within asylum systems. Its mission is to build a network of mobile teams of operational experts working across registration platforms, accommodation centers, and integration programs.
These teams will monitor and respond to the evolving needs of both frontline workers and victims, making use of existing national and European identification and support tools. Depending on each country’s context, interventions may also extend to supporting minors.
Each partner country will establish its own mobile team, adapted to national needs, with the following key missions:
• Support practitioners with expertise, resources, and guidance on trafficking in human beings (THB), asylum, and protection systems.
• Provide direct assistance to victims during asylum procedures and throughout the integration process.
• Strengthen cooperation and coordination with institutional actors at local, regional, and national levels.
• Promote European cooperation by sharing knowledge, operational practices, and case experiences in the fields of asylum and THB.
In addition, REACHing aims to exchange good practices with Niger—a key country that is both a place of origin and transit for victims of trafficking.
REACHing will develop a common framework that will guide the teams’ activities and ensure consistency. Key activities include: · Assessing operational needs: Distributing a questionnaire to partner centers, relevant actors, and facilities to identify the expertise required on trafficking in human beings (THB) and asylum. At least 50 responses will be collected. A follow-up questionnaire will later measure the impact of the interventions.
· Mapping good practices: Identifying existing tools, methods, and procedures at local, national, and European levels to build upon proven approaches.
· Establishing information-sharing protocols: Creating clear procedures for communication and collaboration among teams and stakeholders.
· Identifying abuses within asylum systems: Strengthening detection mechanisms to expose and address cases of exploitation or procedural misuse.
· Improving access to rights: Enhancing monitoring of centers and programs, supported by continuous training for frontline staff.
· Supporting empowerment and integration: Acting within integration programs to promote inclusion, stability, and long-term resilience for victims.
In the short term, the project will:
· Raise awareness among victims, potential victims, social workers, and even perpetrators or potential perpetrators.
· Empower survivors through targeted activities that build confidence and resilience.
· Ανταλλαγή γνώσεων: Ανταλλαγή εμπειριών καλών πρακτικών για μια συντονισμένη ευρωπαϊκή απάντηση σε ένα παγκόσμιο ζήτημα.
· Promote international cooperation, including study visits and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with partners in Niger to strengthen protection for people on the move.
