The project aims to address the to address the lack of protective and supportive relief services to the most vulnerable refugees, which has been identified through the field work of the operational outreach teams of social workers in Athens, Thessaloniki and the islands, that cover accommodation sites, first reception sites and hotspots and the work through the services that are provided in GCR’s Central Social Services Unit, since there are numerous cases of very vulnerable persons in need of additional aid . Although main needs such as food and shelter are covered there are always list of items that are lacking; and there is a constant need of specific essential items particularly for women. The intervention will address the lack of hygiene products for women, along with essential products for mothers with babies. The field work has also identified a need for mothers’ mobility, so slings and strollers are proposed to cover these needs. The issue of mobility was identified from previous operations so the purchase of additional disability chairs is considered necessary. Lastly the project wants to address the lack of emergency accommodation by providing access to short term residence to very vulnerable cases (mothers with very young babies, single parents, large families, and people with disability or chronic illnesses) that will need transit accommodation for a short period of time.
