Objectives

The program aims to:Το πρόγραμμα στοχεύει:

-Identify and recognize victims of torture and other forms of severe violence among those seeking international protection in Greece.
-Provide psychological, social, and legal support to victims to ensure recovery and access to asylum and protection services.
-Document and report cases of torture inside and outside the asylum procedure, contributing to the fight against impunity.
-Strengthen national capacity to identify and protect victims through the training of frontline professionals.

Activities

•Provision of legal services to asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection victims of torture
•Provision of psychosocial services to asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection victims of torture
•Connection and referral to public services and other services of civil society organizations

Results

The GCR has been implementing this program consistently for the past 10 years, with the support of the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture (UNVFVT), offering specialized support to one of the most vulnerable population groups.

Indicatively:

-On an annual basis, the program supports approximately 100–120 survivors of torture.
-Around 60–70 individuals per year receive comprehensive support, including legal, psychological, social, and medical assistance - through referrals.
-Psychosocial rehabilitation interventions are carried out, along with referrals to health and integration services.
-The program contributes to the documentation of serious human rights violations and supports strategic legal action to seek justice for victims.

In total, over 1,000 survivors of torture have received direct support over the past decade, thanks to the multidisciplinary and coordinated intervention of the GCR team.
