Τhe Greek Council for Refugees participated in the 17th International Conference of the International Association for the Study of Forced Migration (IASFM 17), entitled “Whither Refugees? Restrictionism, Crisis and Precarity Writ Large”, which took place between July 24-27 2018 at the University of Macedonia, in Thessaloniki.
GCR took part in the discussion of July 25th on the “Glocal Response to the Greek Refugee Crisis”, along with other organizations which are active in the refugee field, as well as in the panel of the following day, where the topic was refugee healthcare.
Recent challenges, response methods but also the knowledge and experience acquired in general were discussed. More specifically, GCR’s Social unit coordinator, Ms. Eleni Perraki, elaborated on the good practices created by the professionals in the field, as well as on the effectiveness in addressing refugee needs through good networking and collaboration. The exchange of tools, the application of international models in the field of psychosocial intervention and the provision of services, as well as follow-up of our beneficiaries, were main talking points, while GCR’s next steps regarding the strengthening of refugees and their smooth social and labor market integration were also laid out.
