FARE - FOOTBALL AGAINST RACISM IN EUROPE!

15th – 29th OCTOBER 2013

“Pyxida”, the Inter-cultural Centre of the Greek Council for Refugees, participated again in the campaign of FARE (Football Against Racism in Europe), that took place between the 15th and 29th of October in many football grounds across Europe!

During the weekend of the 26th and 27th of October, “Pyxida” took part with 16 children.

More specifically, on Saturday 26th of October, the kids from “Pyxida”, together with kids from 2 refugee shelters from the center of Athens, played football, shouted and scored goals against each other, but most importantly against racism!

On Sunday 27th of October, after having come into contact with Superleague, we escorted the kids to watch a professional football game. The Sunday afternoon game between “Panionios – Apollon Athinon”, was of further importance due to the refugee origins of both clubs. All the players on the pitch showed the red card to racism and we were there to cheer for them!

During both days, the kids had loads of fun both by playing football themselves and by watching a real football game. We really hope that “Pyxida” has the chance to participate in similar campaigns and activities that aim at the elimination of the phenomenon of racism and discrimination, not only from sports, but from the wider society.
