Social Support

The Social Service of PYXIDA focuses on providing counseling for persons and families as regards their educational needs. The beneficiaries are assisted throughout the bureaucratic process resulting from the demands they have submitted. In particular, a Social Worker evaluates the demands to place the minor members of the family at any level of the public education system (Athens Public Nursery, Kindergartens, Elementary Schools, Gymnasiums and Lyceums) and guides the families as regards the collection of all supportive documents necessary to enroll the children at school. Furthermore, s/he undertakes all necessary actions, such as enter in consultation with the Refugee's Education Coordinators appointed by the Ministry of Education and the principals of the schools, as well as remain in contact with teachers, in order to ensure that children will regularly and smoothly attend classes. PYXIDA also has a consultative role towards the families that need extra assistance in handling their children's learning difficulties and it runs a Parents School aimed at counseling and supporting parents whose children attend the educational programs ran by PYXIDA. The Parents School aims at the smooth integration of parents into society, their psycho-emotional support by people facing similar issues and their personal empowerment by highlighting their perspectives within the Greek society.
