The Greek Council for Refugees will present for the first time to key national stakeholders the Policy Brief most suited to the national context, outlining the best practices and the relevant mechanisms to ensure the implementation of alternatives to detention in the country. This Policy Brief will be the subject of an open dialogue among the participants, such as the key stakeholders, civil society organisations and experts from a wide variety of fields.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Official reports and international forums have criticized, particularly in the past, the indiscriminate and legally unfounded detention of third country nationals in Greece, as well as the unacceptable conditions of this kind of \"hospitality\". Despite the fact that the number of prisoners has been severely reduced in recent months, this daily practice of detention necessitates the systematic implementation, for the first time, of alternative detention measures, which after all still remains a legal obligation of Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
