Children account for more than one-fifth of arrivals, with 30% unaccompanied or separated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>On 11 July 2025, the government suspended access to asylum<\/strong> for people arriving by boat from North Africa to Crete, ordering returns without registering claims.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Detention and returns under the new law:<\/strong><strong> \u03bd\u03bf\u03bc\u03bf\u03c3\u03c7\u03ad\u03b4\u03b9\u03bf<\/strong>longer detention periods, electronic tagging, criminalization of irregular stay, abolition of exceptional grounds for issuing residence permits. Risks for children: limited access to education, violation of the principle of the best interests of the child.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Serious deficiencies in reception and accommodation,<\/strong>with prolonged stays in unsuitable facilities, separation of families, and limited access to school education.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Challenges in education<\/strong> and significant obstacles for unaccompanied children, as well as for those reaching adulthood.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>At the same time,<\/strong>growing government pressure on NGOs\u2014including threats of audits and deregistration for pursuing legal challenges\u2014undermines access to justice, an essential safeguard for children\u2019s rights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report calls for urgent reversal of the asylum suspension, an end to child detention and evictions, safe and stable housing, guaranteed access to education, and protection of civil society as a cornerstone of children\u2019s rights.
